The Saturday Evening Blog Post, Vol.4, No. 3

It's been quite a while since I've joined the fun of Elizabeth Esther's Saturday Evening Blog Post. Elizabeth asks us to choose our favorite post from the last month and repost it to share.

Unfortunately, because of my busy teaching schedule with co-op classes at Heritage Christian School and online classes with  Brave Writer, plus focusing on my fiction writing in my (very) few spare moments, I haven't posted much to this blog in the past month.

But one post stands out to me, especially as I haven't composed a poem in more than seven months.

So, I chose my poetry post Love Poem to a Wren to share. I hope you enjoy it!!

And the workshops at the Pine Valley Bible Conference Center's Spring Women's Conference went very well today. Yes, I'm an exhausted, puddly mess who is not planning to stir in the slightest tomorrow, but the workshops were truly enjoyable for me, and I pray they were a blessing to those who attended. The 4:15 blogging workshop was quite sparsely attended, but so were most of the other workshops at that time as most of the women were exhausted by the constant rush of activities that naps before dinner was a more attractive option than yet another workshop. But it was still a pleasant time, and I am looking forward to next weekend when I get to do it all over again. :) Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. :)

A Belated Saturday Evening Blog Post

I've missed a few postings this spring, but now that I'm picking up blogging again, I will join EE's groupies and share my favorite post for the month of June.

Since I really started posting in the second half of the month, I didn't have that many posts from which to choose. But one stood out in its quirky stream-of-consciousness style, and that's the one I've decided to share:

Saturday Evening Blog Post: Volume 3, Issue 1

Although for the past month I have been almost totally consumed by the prayer book project, I do want to chime in and add a post to Elizabeth Esther's Saturday Evening Blog Post.

So I've combed through my posts for January and have selected this post as my favorite for the month. I hope that you'll like it, too:

It's Done!

Yes, completing the 2011 Book of Common Prayer project was indeed the highlight of January for me. I can't wait to hold a copy in my own hot little hands!

Then as I read more on this month's Saturday Evening Blog Post, I realized that Elizabeth asked us to post our favorite post from December as well, so here's a poem I wrote early in the month, one that received some very nice comments from my friends at The High Calling:

Saturday Evening Blog Post for November

Each month we post our best/favorite post of the previous month as part of the Saturday Evening Blog Post at ElizabethEsther.com.

As my regular readers now, I embarked on a poetic journey in November, writing 30 poems in 30 days as part of the November PAD Poetry Chapbook Challenge through The Writer's Digest website. I wrote lots of other items, too, but one poem received the greatest number of comments I have received in over four years of blogging. I also sahred it with my little writing group in our small town, and they liked it as well, one member stating that it's the best poem I have written since we started the group five years ago.

And it's this poem I have selected to share with you.

The Saturday Evening Blog Post: 2009 Edition

Elizabeth Esther at Kids, Twins, & Laundry Bins hosts a wonderful monthly gathering of blogs called the Saturday Evening Blog Post in which we choose the best blog post from the past month. In this case, we are to post the best blog post from the past year. However, I'm sticking with the past month -- there's just not enough time to go through the 314 posts I wrote in 2009.

So I chose for this month's post a poem I wrote for my first ReadWritePoem prompt and received the most comments so far on this blog: Borrowed Words.

Well, here it is: the first Saturday (okay, okay, so I'm posting late!) of the month, and that means it's time for the Saturday Evening Blog Post, a wonderful thing that Elizabeth Esther at Kids, Twins and Laundry Bins hosts each month.

Saturday Evening Blog Post for September

Elizabeth Esther at Kids, Twins and Laundry Bins started a wonderful monthly MEME called The Saturday Evening Blog Post in which we choose a blog post from the past month and repost it at her site and explain why we chose it.

Quotation of the Week and the Joy of Epistles

I wrote a similar blog post yesterday about how much peace and joy I find in writing with my rosewood dip pen (purchased by my children from Barnes and Noble for a birthday present a couple of years ago) and sepia ink (included with the pen). There's just something elemental and elegant about writing thus. It's one of the true joys of my life.

Saturday Evening Blog Post

I shouldn't be up this late. Really. I promised myself a quick peep into Google Reader, and Jen's Conversion Diary is on top alphabetically (it's all about those quote marks around "Et tu?" which I still haven't changed to her current blog name, lazy moi). So I took the quickest possible glance ... and discovered something that means I'm up far too late, fingernails clacking incessantly upon my keyboard ... AGAIN.

I always promise myself that it will take "only a minute" to write a post. And then I get drawn in more and more deeply, changing this detail and adding that. My joy in the craft of writing swallows me up, and somehow an hour slips past me as I'm totally engrossed in composing. The only other activity that engulfs me, heart and soul, to the point of losing track of time, like I do when writing is reading a really good book.

So here I start writing a "quick" post to tell about the very cool thing that Jen and her friend Elizabeth are doing: The Saturday Evening Blog Post. On the first Saturday of each month, we can post our favorite blog post of the past month on Elizabeth's blog using Mr. Linky and then post in our own blogs why we chose that particular post.

I chose a post from earlier in August which includes my latest poem that I shared with our town's little writing group. You may read it here: Poem: In the Confessional. I chose it because it tells a great deal about my life as a writer and about a topic that I feel drawn to writing about over and over during the past two years: confession. I hope you like it.

I almost chose a couple of other posts, so in case you're interested, you may read them here: Tennis, Anyone in which I describe my kids picking up my formerly favorite sport, and A Recap: God at Work which is about answered prayer as we prepared to start our twelfth year of home education.
