NaPoWriMo Day #5: Personal Poetry

Day 5's poetry prompt at ReadWritePoem asked us to "get personal": to name our poetry and discuss how our poetry would act as a person. This poem came quite easily, so I'm not sure if it's any good. We shall see....

My Poetry: Some Day
She peeks shyly around the corner,
her blue eyes rounded.

She takes tentative steps,
wanting to run away yet desiring to remain--
to have her say.

She's a simple thing--
a Rose by any name,
blushing as pink as her namesake,
budding with promise--
(or so she hopes.)

She looks with admiring eyes
at the Great Ones circulating in the salon,
sipping merlot from stemmed glasses,
speaking in perfect meter and rhyme.
So wise they seem to her--
so urbane and self-assured,
as they shimmer past her.

She melts into schoolgirlishness,
knobbly knees scarred by clumsy falls,
awkward words twisting tongue and pen,
a mere fan of their fame--
hoping yet fearing she may join
their elite salon
when she grows up,
comes into full bloom--
some day.
