Carry on Tuesday Prompt #35 from Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities:
"It was the best of times; it was the worst of times...."
The worst of times --Copyright 2010 by Susanne Barrett
fear penetrating
the marrow,
suffocating the good,
the best.
A winward spirit,
fingers wrapped firmly
around my throat --
pressing, pressing in.
Stalking the halls of memory,
exhausted by repetition,
unable to be released
from its damnable task.
A glimmer
in the darkness,
a sparkle,
as blackened windows
pearl with dawn.
Dayspring arrives,
conquering the ghosts,
hefting truth,
stifling my demons --
at least until nightfall.

Love love love it. And well done tackling that prompt, I couldn't manage it. Really good job.
Thank you, kindly friend. :) I wasn't sure I could manage it either. Lately the most difficult prompts have brought out the depths -- very grateful.
