PAD Poetry Challenge Day 2 & Carry on Tuesday

As part of the November PAD Poetry Chapbook Challenge, I am posting a new poem--this one from the Carry on Tuesday Prompt #77 for this week:

The opening line from Daphne Du Maurier's novel Rebecca: "Last night I dreamt I...."

Last Night
Last night I dreamt I flew,
arms unguardedly outstretched--
a superwoman, a wonderwoman...
and able...finally able.

Awake I am tethered
to this cane,
its four rubber-tipped prongs
balancing my edges.
The burnished metallic curve
weighted in my swollen fingers
recalls her wise eyes,
the fierce spirit
glimmering through her frail chrysalis,
riddled with bombastic marrow.
Untethered now,
she flutters true.
